A family-run hardwood crew serving the South Denver Metro
Above Grade Flooring is a family-owned flooring and remodeling company based in Lone Tree. Owner Brian Blaylock started the business in 2022 and has grown it job by job across the South Denver Metro ever since. We supply and install solid hardwood, engineered hardwood, and custom parquet sourced from mills like Lauzon, Mirage, Mercier, Bruce, Kahrs, Coswick, Shaw, and Armstrong.
Because we order straight from those mills instead of marking up big-box inventory, you get the same floors for a fairer price - and one crew handles the entire job, from tear-out to the final coat, whether you're in a newer build near Parker or Castle Rock or an older ranch-style home in Englewood or Lakewood.

Solid or engineered - what our altitude and climate mean for your choice
Both are genuine wood, but the way each board is built changes how it holds up once winter arrives. At over a mile of elevation along the Front Range, indoor air turns bone-dry the moment the furnace kicks on, and that swing between humid summers and dry winter heat is hard on wood that isn't built to handle it.
- Solid hardwood - a full 3/4" plank of 100% wood, nailed to a plywood subfloor, refinishable 5-7 times over its life. Performs well on main and upper levels here, though a humidifier in winter helps keep the seams from opening up.
- Engineered hardwood - a real wood wear layer bonded to a cross-ply core that resists the shrink-and-swell cycle our seasons create. The safer bet over concrete slabs, below grade, or under radiant heat.
- Wide-plank boards (5"-7") - a favorite in newer South Denver Metro construction, available in either build.
- Custom parquet - herringbone, chevron, and inlaid patterns, all buildable in solid or engineered form.

Learn moreChoosing a species and stain
About seven out of ten of our installs are red or white oak - it takes stain evenly, shrugs off dings, and suits almost any interior. Maple gives a smoother, more uniform grain for a lighter look; hickory is the toughest domestic species we carry, which matters in a house with kids or dogs; walnut and cherry bring a deeper, more formal tone to dining rooms and studies.
We bring real stained sample boards into your home rather than a catalog swatch, because a stain color photographed under studio lighting almost never matches what it looks like next to your own windows and cabinetry.

Installation and refinishing, one crew from start to finish
We install nail-down, glue-down, or floating hardwood depending on your subfloor, and every job includes moisture testing, subfloor leveling, and baseboard removal/reinstall, along with hauling away your old flooring. If your existing hardwood just needs to look new again, our refinishing team runs dustless sanding gear and finishes with a water-based polyurethane that's walkable within days.

Hardwood Flooring - frequently asked questions
Plan on 2 to 4 days for a full-home install. If we're also refinishing existing hardwood elsewhere in the house at the same time, add 3 to 5 more days for sanding, staining, and letting the finish coats cure.
Engineered hardwood is the right call in both spots - its plywood core stays put even as our low winter humidity and summer moisture swing the air indoors. We steer clients away from solid hardwood in basements and kitchens for the same reason.
Solid hardwood, cared for properly, routinely lasts 80-100 years and can be sanded and refinished 5 to 7 times along the way. Engineered hardwood typically runs 30-50 years with one or two refinishing passes, depending on its wear layer.
We bring sample boards in your existing species and stain so we can get within a shade or two by eye. For a truly seamless result, we can refinish your current hardwood at the same time so the old and new sections read as one continuous floor.
